Last weekend, February 2-3 the annual International Greek Biotech Conference
took place in Athens organized by Bionova Ltd., the representative of
EuropaBio (European Biotech corporations Lobby) in Greece.
Bionova as a national representative promotes in all levels the Biotech
agenda including GMO's, Agrofuels, Bio-patents, collaboration of Science &
Business aiming as well to expansion in the SE Europe. (For detailed review
please read here <http://www.gmwatch.org/archive2.asp?arcid=8683> or here:

Since the very first conference counter-action has been generated in Greece
from several groups from all over the country including mass demonstrations
(see report and video from the 3rd conference

This year due to some parallel anti-fascist demonstrations taking place very
close to the point of the anti-biotech gathering and extent street conflicts
between police, fascists and activists the whole thing got interrupted and
focused mostly to action within & outside the conference. (Watch all the fun
of the 4th conference in the video

Further counter-action is already being organised with the aim to inflict
the institutionalised status of the Greek representatives of Global Biotech
Engines. Keep in touch for more…

Britain is GMO free again:
On the night of Friday the 6th of July 2007, a group of activists converged on Britain's only GM trial site just outside Cambridge. They scaled the security fences and destroyed the crop of genetically modified potatoes.
This was the only crop of GM potatoes being grown in the UK, after the chemicals giant BASF abandoned plans for a GM potato trial in Yorkshire this year. There have been multiple protests at the Cambridge site and at the Yorkshire site (where organic potatoes were planted).
However BASF have permission lasting until 2011, so this may not be the end of the story ...
GM - Back on the agenda? (23.08.2006): BASF, a chemical company, has asked for permission to grow the first trial crop of genetically modified (GM) potatoes in the UK. BASF says it hopes GM potatoes could be sold in the UK within 10 years:
